Even as a child, I knew that there was something more to cooking than just preparing food and eating it.
My earliest and fondest memory in the kitchen is when I was with my Nanny Gloria at about five years old, and I would stand on the chair and together, we would make toffee and fresh bread. Even looking back all of these years later, I can still remember the feeling of utter bliss from that particular moment and cooking.
For me, being at home and having the ability to cook in peace and ‘zone out, with a glass of red in hand and music playing softly, is my idea of a perfect time.
When I’m cooking in a social environment during a cooking class, in one-on-one courses or even in private catering, I can share my passion and creativity with others whilst socialising; well, that is just a win.
One of my favourite cuisines to both cook and eat is Asian food. Not only are the recipes laden with beautiful fresh produce and ingredients, but the elements of spice that you can add depending on your preference can add details to any dish.
My idea of an ideal cooking class would-be clients who love to be in the kitchen but also love to have a laugh. An undeniable passion for food, either cooking or consuming, is a must.
My background varies from five-star hotels, fine dining restaurants, and teaching in a social enterprise cafe more recently. My career has been extraordinarily diverse, but I have now found my way back to the educational side of cooking. I love having the ability to share my love, passion, and skills within the cuisine and hospitality space with others.
Not too long ago, I had an epiphany that saw that adults should be striving to ‘work to live instead of living to work. I learned to spend more time with my husband and my children; I had to create a work/life balance. That is where Gather & Cook came from.
Gather & Cook; gathering your loved ones and cooking.
For me, it creates nostalgic feelings; a sense of warmth and love that you receive from being around your loved ones is what we’ve created.
Being with friends and loved ones constantly gather around a table or a lounge, eat food, share stories, and share a bottle of red and unwinding.
As cliche as it may sound, nothing makes me happier than cooking for people - luckily, I chose the right profession.
